Another day, another chapter

I keep thinking this editing thing will get easier. I think part of the problem is, I'm still rewriting as much as I'm editing for grammar/punctuation/etc. Trouble is, I reread a section and think, "You know, wouldn't it sound better if this half of the sentence came first? Yeah, and then we could move this sentence to the end of the paragraph. OK. And then, what if we flip this around and . . ."

You get the drift.

You'd think I'd be better at this since I'm a tech writer/editor in real life. But, there I'm mostly editing other people's work. I'm not attached to anything that way. Plus, the organization we support has some very strict writing style guides we have to follow, making it even easier to spot stylistic errors.

Still, progress is being made and I'm still happy with the changes I'm making in the story. I guess in the end, that's all that matters. Cut Chapter Ten down from 4074 to 3529 words, excising 545 words from the original manuscript, so that should put me over 5000 words cut in ten chapters. Not to bad for someone as loquacious as I am.

And Chapter Ten puts me over 1/3 of the way through with the rewrite. Huzzah! Still can't tell if the light at the end of the tunnel is an onrushing deadline or not, but it's getting a little more distinct from here.

Besides, I need to get this done. I just got an idea for another book today. AAAUUGGHH! That's all I need, another project! (bangs head on desk again)
