And Chapter Seven is in the bag

Been having lots of fun at work. OK, not really, but it's been busy and the shift goes pretty fast, which is always a good thing. I'm still trying to adjust to the guy I work for. To say he's a bit of a workaholic is being polite. Last pay period, he was 32 hours over our required hours and he considered it a light two-weeks. Apparently at his last company, working 15-18 hour days was considered normal.

That was one thing I promised myself when I left the Army was I wasn't going to get sucked into that lifestyle. When I was in the Army, I knew I was on-call 24/7/365, but it was right there in the contract. Now that I'm a civilian and a salaried man, I get paid for my 40 hours a week and no more. So, I see no reason to donate time to any company when I'm not going to get recompensed for it. I mean, sure, if we have a major deadline and stuff has to get done, then I'll be the first one there. But just to put in hours for the sake of doing so? Oh, heck no. I may not get the "big promotions", but I already get paid way more than I did when I was in the service. I'm comfortable, all my bills are being met and I have money for anime cels and SF/F conventions. What more do I need?

Got back to Chapter Seven of Harbinger tonight. Finished the first pass through and then went through again and caught a few things I'd missed. Trimmed the Chapter down from 4882 words to 4103, a savings of 779 words. I haven't added them all up, but I think I've trimmed over 4000 words off the story just in the first seven chapters. Go me!

I'm hoping to get a couple of chapters edited both on Saturday and Sunday to make up for the time I'm going to lose next week. We're going to Busch Gardens on Friday with April and her family and then hit the Smithsonian on Saturday to see the Muppets and Mechanisms: Jim Henson’s Legacy. This looks like it's going to be a very cool exhibit. I'm anticipating taking lots of pictures there. I've lived in the Balto/DC area for nine years now and this will be the first time I go into a Smithsonian building other than Natural History. Sometimes things are "too convenient" and you forget to take advantage of them.

Anyway, time to go to bed.
