Vacation's over

In some ways, that was the hardest nine days of my life. See, when I was working on Harbinger, I could manage to come up with an excuse not to work on the project when I really wanted to be lazy. (Well, having school work did also seem to play a small part there, but I digress. . . )

However, I set a goal that I wasn't going to do any writing until today (Monday). It was all reading, watching TV with the family, shopping, cleaning, rearranging (see wishweaver's blog about picking out new furniture for the library).

But, knowing I wasn't supposed to write, it was all I could do NOT to do it. I did allow myself to jot down notes/ideas for future stories, but I really, really wanted to write. There was something about "not being supposed to write" that made it almost irresistible. It was the strangest feeling, but I think the break was a good thing. Relaxation, even if its enforced, is still good for the mind.

Started Dragon Couchant tonight officially. It's the first book of a trilogy I've been working off and on since 1994. The other two books will be titled Dragon Statent and Dragon Rampant. (Can't tell I used to be a herald in the SCA, now can you?) Got a good start on it. We're about 2/3rds of the way through the first chapter, coming in at 2489 words tonight. My goal is to have the first three chapters done by the end of the month and have the entire thing written by 30 Jun. (Yeah, I could be done sooner, but I expect my college classes to absorb a lot of my free time/energy). Since they don't start until 28 Jan, best to get as much done as possible while I've still got some time.

I'll start editing Harbinger 01 Feb 2006. Need to give it a little time to ferment before going after it with the hedge trimmers. ;)
