(Early) Fall Clean-up

It's time to do the major cleaning of the abode again. While we like to keep things neat normally, every so often things can get away from you. It's amazing too, how much help the cats are in making messes. The older male has decided any flat surface he can lay on needs to be cleaned off just for him (leaving piles of stuff in the floor next to the coffee table, dining room table, desk, etc.). Let's just say, he and I have had several up-close and personal talks about this new habit of his, most of which would not be printable in a blog where minors might find it. Let's just say, I was having flashbacks to my instructor days in the military.

Started work out at the new site today. Pretty nice, huge cubical, but there is definitely one flaw. They won't let me have my desktop coffee pot at my cubical. I can plug it in to one of the wall sockets, but the nearest one is about fifty feet away from my desk. I'm telling you, there ought to be a law about failing to provide sufficient power to a cube to handle a four-cup coffee maker. I'm going to have to figure some way around this . . . (starts plotting evil plots).

Got back to work on Harbinger after spending the other night helping my daughter with one of her computer games. I didn't think it was going to take as long as it did, but, she was very appreciative. So I get the gold star for being a good dad, I guess. Added 1810 words to the manuscript tonight. Toying with this current scene. I may need to go back and add in some more details, but I wanted to get the main points on paper tonight. Finish the book, then start editing, White.

Stopped by one of the new "Borders Express" stores on Saturday (used to be a Waldenbooks). She's getting started into the "Series of Unfortunate Events" books and we're seeing if she might like the "Spiderwick" books too. There were a few other books I think she might like and we're working out a deal with her, for every manga book she gets, she has to get (and read) a standard book too. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm a comic-aphile from a long way back (hell, I write some) and I really enjoy manga/anime. I just want to make certain she reads other stuff too. She knocked out "Beauty" in about two days, which impressed the heck out of me. It was one of her summer reading assignments for school.

Hmm, no shuttle bus tomorrow. Need to find a new inspirational writing spot.

You need one of those coffee-mugs with an integral plunger. Cafetier coffee tastes much nicer than percolator coffee...

Thanks! For some reason I was really sweating the LitCrit class. It wasn't easy by any stretch, but I think I made it harder on myself by overthinking stuff.

Just one class this fall (schedule just…

I'm going to take a critique of Dracula based on one school of literary criticism (say, Neo-Marxist) and then deconstruct that critique using the focus of a different school of theory (say feminist,…

Well, if you want to fly over here, I can put you up at my place and get you a guest ticket. *grin* Might even try to get your opinion of my scotch collection.

    Airfare is on you, though.
