Making the best of the situation

I was right last night. I didn't feel up to going into work this morning. So, after a call to work, I went back upstairs, grabbed my H.P. Lovecraft collection and began reading. I specifically re-read "The Call of Cthlulu" and then just picked out a few stories at random until I fell back asleep.

Finally dragged myself out of bed at 1430 this afternoon. For some reason, sleep is a much better treatment for being ill than taking any medicines. Had a late lunch and then caught up on some e-mails I'd been owing as well as spending a bit of time on Twitter catching up with some people over in the U.K. that I normally don't get to visit with.

Spent some time checking the All U.S. Kendo Federation site, but I didn't find a link for their summer camp in July. Hopefully, I can find out the information soon. I need to see how much it's going to cost for hotel and the seminar. I've found a few flights to and from Seattle that are reasonable, but still I need to get all the info together as soon as possible so I can make sure this fits into the family budget this year.

I did manage to get some writing in this evening for Steel on Target, adding another 1126 words. Finished Chapter 17 and started Chapter 18. My MC is undergoing an interrogation at the moment. I'll need to run this section by a few friends of mine who were interrogators back in the service to make sure I've captured the spirit as well as the techniques. Ah, the joys of wanting to be as accurate as possible.

And now, time for bed. At least the sunburn isn't bothering me, so I expect to make it to Kendo practice tomorrow night.

LOL Parallel lives
Missed fencing last night. Frau Hau was too ill to look after the kids, but I think I had a dose of whatever it was myself.

Regarding comfort reads: have you sampled Harold Lamb yet?

No, but after your review, it's on my list of things to track down.

Re: LOL Parallel lives
I've just read the 5th story - a Viking leading Normans into action against Saracens, and I just sat their swearing while the imagery ricocheted around my head.

The one dated element is the slight archaism of the language when the characters speak. (Dost, thee, etc). I think the publisher's site has excerpts - you can decide for yourself.

I've got three books I do need to finish . . . esp. since I owe feedback on all of them - Jim C. Hines's "The Mermaid's Madness"; Ari Marmell's "The Conquerer's Shadow" and Yasmine Galenorn's "Bone Magic".

But what the heck. What's another book on the Must-be-read pile, right?

Well, they are short stories.
