wishweaver and the daughter-unit were off today, although Wish did yeoman's work rescuing my car from it's icy embrace while I was off twiddling my thumbs at work. The good thing was I didn't burn a day of leave. The bad thing was I didn't get any writing done at work when I had a perfect opportunity to do so. There's just something about being at work, at least right now, that inhibits me from writing and it shouldn't. None of my other projects have ever objected to me typing away at something as long as I'm available to work (aka near my desk) and don't put off real work to do writing stuff.

But, the past few weeks, I've had some downtime but I just can't seem to focus on "my" writing. I think my enthusiasm for this particular project is waning somewhat and it's making me less productive on personal projects both at work and at home. That's usually a sign it's time to see about finding another contract that my company has that needs a tech writer.

There was some more clearing of cars that had to happen for me to get to work.

I call the second picture there "Shaving the Yaris" *grin*

My poor car was still semi-buried next to the road. After these pics were taken, wishweaver finished digging my car out and moved it into the driveway in case the plows came back. (Yeah, right.) Remember, these pictures represent about an hour's worth of digging yesterday.

The last picture shows the passenger side of my car before it was dug out.

I did get some more writing done on Steel on Target tonight once things (and my pizza) settled down. I added 1442 words to Chapter 14. I had tried working on this chapter this weekend but kept feeling like something was missing. And it was, only I figured out this evening that what it was missing was the middle section of the chapter, not the end. I knocked out a 992-word middle section and then the end started just coming together. I've got about two more pages to finish this chapter and then I can get to one of those fun fight scenes I like to write.

Actually, I just got some feedback from one of my friends and he had some very good suggestions on how to improve the first chapter. I'm not big on revising as I'm writing, but in this case, I may print off a copy of Chapter One and see if I can't "amp it up a bit". I love getting good feedback (and no, I don't mean all light and fluffy). I like good tough critiques that point out what worked and what didn't but don't try to rewrite things (unless I've just made a hideous error. I hate getting feedback that basically says, "I wouldn't have written it that way." No duh, that's because you're not writing it. *headdesk*

And I have to thank Vic Milan for giving me another nugget of a story idea. Like I don't have enough stories running around in my head, but this might make a series of very cool short stories and set up a possible novel or two. Starting to do my research anyway. (Cue the guys with the white coats and butterfly nets.)

Oh, and now both Accuweather and Weather.com are showing Maryland getting between 6-12" of snow, except for a little blue ball around Baltimore that encompasses my area where the 12"+ of snow is predicted to land. I'm not sure if this should be Snowpocalypse Two or Son of Snowpocalypse.

Send snow shovels and rock salt. I checked today, there aren't any for sale in a 50 mile radius.

*eep!*

Light box for you boyo....
Been reading a book on the neurology of writing and writers block. Chances are you have a very mild case of SAD that only shows up in your creativity.

The Yaris, down to the color. When I picked it, I thought it was going to be unique. Instead, that's the color I most often see when I see another Yaris.

Well, considering the weather, I guess it's a good thing I didn't hold out for a white one.

PS - I've heard this storm called "snoverkill" I like that.
