2010 - Time for a do-over

I'm tired, I'm sore, I'm alive.

Guess that counts for something.

I'm a little late starting the blog up again for 2010, but at least it's started.

I've also just survived my first Kendo practice in 4+ years. To say I'm out of shape is not an understatement. It's a HUGE understatement. But, I worked out with the beginners and then did a few exercises with the advanced class. Hopefully next week, we'll try a little more with the advanced and maybe by spring, I'll actually start remembering things.

There was some muscle memory still, and I didn't completely embarrass myself. So, those were good things. Plus, I ran into people I used to spar with and they didn't abuse me too bad for the time off, and that's a good sign too. I do foresee much aspirin and water in my future tomorrow though. I "feel" it now. I think I'm really going to feel it tomorrow.

Speaking of muscle memory, I've been rewriting Steel on Target. I've revised the first five chapters and even adding a new chapter two, I've still cut over 5000 words out so far. I'll post some stats on the story tomorrow. Too tired tonight.

Started working on Shattered Mirror with April again. Bought one of those white boards with a calendar on it and used it to plot out the rest of the book and make sure the timeline was clear. It's amazing how things you think should take X to do really should take Y when you actually try to say "Well, today they'd be here and it'll take two days to reach here and oh, crap, that's too long. So, today they'd actually be here instead and . . ."

Ah, the joys of plotting.

Yes, there's other stuff I will be talking about in future blog posts, but I think my back and shoulders are telling me to go to bed tonight.

Good to see you all again and for those who didn't drop me . . . I'm humbled and frankly quite amazed.

Welcome back!

Looking forward to being a tad more active than I've been the past six months.

Welcome back...
While you were gone, I managed to get my novel onto the to-be-read-properly pile of a certain editor, and started running my own German Longsword class.

Re: Welcome back...
Congratulations on both counts.

I'm hoping to get Steel ready to start querying by late spring. I'm actually less concerned about the book and more concerned about the query letter. You'd think that'd be the easy part, no?

Re: Welcome back...
Actually, my query letter took many iterations, and ended up in crowd-sourcing: http://zornhau.livejournal.com/175389.html#cutid1

How on earth do you cram a hopper full of The Wild into a tiny little bucket designed for making sandcastles?

Re: Welcome back...
It's sort of like fitting Loch Ness into a Wine glass and still being recognizable. Not impossible, but damn difficult.

Nice to see you again. Sorry to hear about the kendo, but glad the writing is going well.

The kendo will return. I just have to knock off the rust and remember I'm not quite as young as my mind seems to think it is. With any luck, I may test for nidan sometime later this year or early next.

Just need to stretch and concentrate more.

Your midlife crisis(es) must be kicking in... :)

Actually, I cannot talk, I won't even discuss my physical fitness (or lack thereof).

WELCOME BACK, about frickin time! LOL
