Almost done

Finished the first pass of edits to The Price of Conviction about 1230am. There are a few things I still need to do to get this ready to go to kradical, but all in all, I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out.

I still need to assign the story a few extra P.T. sessions as it's a little fatter than I really hoped it would be (currently around 12,399 words), but I always seem to write long. One of these days I'm going to have to see what it's like to have to pad a story out, but, I'm not holding my breath.

I wound up rewriting the final section, so I guess that should go on my word count as progress, so here goes:

Words for Today
Zokutou word meterZokutou word meter
2,590 / 1,000

Progress on The Price of Conviction
Zokutou word meter
12,399 / 12,000

Words for the year
Zokutou word meterZokutou word meter
37,556 / 365,000

(Aauugh! Yes, I'm horribly far behind on words!)

I'm going to try and finish my edits tonight, work on Shattered Mirror some on Friday night before my Astronomy Lab study group meets to finish a lab and then begin working on Chronicles of the Sea Dragon and Demons and Devils. With school coming to a close, no more excuses on not writing!

And here I was thinking I wrote my story long. :)

The contract panicked me. Oh, lord, did it panic me. I thought I'd come in at 11k, maybe 10k if I were economical. But the contract length? Ho sodding way! Jittery, jittery, jittery.

The first draft hit 14k. What I turned in was a hair over 12k.

I need to write something more... conventional now...

The contract panicked you?

I knew there wasn't anyway I could get this thing trimmed down to 7500 words even with a chainsaw. I was envisioning having to start over from scratch before kradical talked me off the ledge.

I'm hoping by the final edits on Friday to be under 11,000 when all is said and done. (Note, I said, "hoping".)

Panic to the point of hyperventilation, yeah. :)

Because, let's face it. If the first draft came in at 14k, to bring it in under 7500 words would have meant... I don't know what. I wasn't on a ledge, but I didn't plan for a 7500 words story. Maybe I'd have gotten there, but it would have required a completely different approach.

So I fired off Keith an e-mail, went down to the post office to mail off the signed contracts, and when I got back there was a reply that said, "It's okay. 10k is what I want, but if it's a little longer it's okay."

Sigh of relief.
