Cranking 'er out

Well, I must have been inspired tonight. I didn't get started until my semi-usual time of 2100 and by the time I looked up from finishing Chapter Ten (I found a good spot to split Chapter Eight in half), I realized I'd knocked out 2586 words in under two hours. Not a bad night's work.

I can't wait until I finish this current draft. wishweaver has already helped me find a few areas that need tightening up, but I'm certain a few more times going over it with the red pen won't hurt a bit. It's nice to know I'm going to finish well ahead of schedule for once. I wish I could hand the disk to kradical at Balticon in a couple of weeks, but I have to wait for pre-pub to scrub it first. There are disadvantages to having a contract with the government, but then again, I like making my mortgage payments so if they want to pay me, I can play along with their games.

Course, I also need to get back to cleaning the house. We've got a group of writers crashing at my place for Balticon (much cheaper than spending the night in the hotel), so I have to make certain all the boxes are out of the guest bedroom and either unpacked or moved to the basement between now and Memorial Day. It'll be worth it though.

Wow. With Coventry coming to a close, I'm actually out of writing assignments. Guess I'll be editing and working on Harbinger. Still after working on Gauntlet Dark Legacy #1 and #2 and Coventry since September 2003, it's weird not having an actual story I'm pitching for or working on. It's sort of liberating, knowing I have time to devote to my own writing and I plan on using it to the best of my ability. I do have enough ideas for stories that I want to write and start trying to sell, but I think I may start snooping around and seeing what else might be out there that I could work on. Never know when an opportunity might present itself.

Yes, that's a good feeling, isn't it? :)

So far in my writing career, it's an unusual feeling, that's for certain.

Course, I'm finding the BIC concept is helping emmensely.
