Revenge of the Snow Demons

We received approximately 20" of snow Tues/Wed in near blizzard conditions. It was fun being able to look out the front window and alternately see and not see the neighbor's house across the street. Luckily, we didn't lose power at my house (and considering we're an all-electric house to include heat, this counts as a "good thing").

The highlight of Wednesday was making snowcream. For those unfamiliar with this, I'm going offer up the highly complicated recipe -

One big bowl/pot of snow (approximately a gallon)
1.5 cups of sugar
1 cup of milk
2t of vanilla

Mix the vanilla, sugar and milk together in a mixing bowl, ensuring the sugar is dissolved. (You may have to adjust the milk content slightly here. Pour the wet stuff into the snow and stir. It should start sticking together as the snow reduces. If doesn't look like the snow is coated, add a little more milk into the remnants left behind in the mixing bowl and then transfer to the snow.

Once the mixture is coated, you can either spoon into bowls immediately or pack into freezer container and allow to harden.

Liberal applications of chocolate syrup are recommended.

Thursday morning was spent digging out, rescuing the screen that blew off one of our windows and cleaning off the cars. I probably could have gone in to work on Thursday afternoon, but at that point . . . why?

My internet connection with my laptop was sporadic again. Definitely need to contact Verizon about getting a new router. When I did have a connection, Firefox was up to its old tricks about locking up. I'm thinking about deleting the program and reloading it to see if that clears up some of the stupidity.

However, without the internet to distract me, I did get some good writing in on Steel on Target. Between Wednesday and Thursday, I added 2454 words, bringing me to the middle of Chapter 15. I hope to finish that chapter up tonight or Saturday.

Now, I just have to hope the snow doesn't hit on Monday. *sigh*

We lost power last Friday, about midnight, about two hours south of Pitts. in Brownsville - still waiting for it to come back. Gave up on Monday and relocated to a hotel due to the temp dropping to about 40 degrees and no heat.

I despise Alleghany Power right now. And the electric bill arrived two days ago.

:P

thanks for the recipe!!!

and stay warm!

Hopefully they'll get you back into your house soon. Glad you were able to find a hotel with power!

We had to do something like that in the Blizzard of 1994. 67 of Tennessee's 75 counties lost power in that storm. Luckily, Ft. Campbell had its own power plant and they opened up the barracks and the gyms for the off-post people to bring their families.

Which in the long run was good because none of the hotel/motels in Clarksville had power either for a few days.

My Platoon Sergeant lost power when a tree fell on his line. Ripped the box off of his house. The power company came out, ran a new line to the box and got ready to leave. When he asked what was going on, they said, they were only responsible for the line up to the box, he'd have to get an electrician to fix the box. He was without power for 45 days - that's how booked up the electricians were. *eeek!*

wow... I'm really hoping it's not that bad with us. Got a power line down across the driveway, so it's pretty obvious where the problem is.

:P

and to make things worse/sillier - got a contract offer on Friday night, just before we lost power. Tweeted out on emerg power the situation and just got around to confirming said deal - just waiting for the official word to make the announcement, but talk about a miserable weekend! Good with the bad, ya know?

*laughs*

still, got to give props to Super8 - free wireless, free continental brekka and a decent room.

;)

needless to say, we're looking at picking up a propane heater or something along those lines when the panic settled down and stores get restocked.

Snow cream! People have been talking about it, but I didn't know a recipe.
